2025 Newsletter

Dear Member,
This year saw the club focus on improvements to Roe Green Pool as well as continual maintenance at Sandhole Reservoir. We successfully applied for funding from the E.A Fishery Improvement Program for Roe Green pool and we were awarded £3000. In May we began Phase 1 and hired contractors to extract approx. 80 tons of silt from the lower pool (cricket club end), remove bankside overgrowth, remove old tree stumps, and dig a 100 metre trench to lay electric cables and hardwire the two aerators. The club contributed from club funds to enable Phase 1 to be completed.
We are now moving on to Phase 2 which is the removal of over 200 tons of silt and lilies, bankside trees, liming of the pool, and restocking. The current estimate for Phase 2 is £14000. Obviously, the club cannot afford this, so we will apply once again for funding from the F.I.P.
The start of Phase 2 will depend on us receiving sufficient funds.
The 2026 renewals will be open from Mid-December; there will be no increase in membership fees. Any new member who joined in 2025 and has not completed their three work party commitments (membership rule) will have to join as a new member. Work party attendance is abysmal. Please put few hours into the club otherwise we will have to continue employing outside contractors at the club’s expense.
We have booked eleven match venues again for 2026 and the match questionnaire is available to download from the club’s website. Information on the club’s matches and work parties is available from the website and is included in the club’s diary.
We continue to look for additional waters, that we can lease, but it is proving to be a very difficult task.
We wish all members a Happy Christmas and a peaceful New year.
The committee of Salford Angling Club.
